Grinder Operator
We currently have 2 rotaries, 2 horizontal Mattison grinders and one
Arter grinder. We are looking to add to our grinding team. This is a
fast-paced environment that may involve working on a variety of tasks
each day. This is NOT a production/assembly line environment. Due to our
large catalog of products and services, individuals must be willing to
cross-train within the shop.
A Grinder Operator must use various grinding tools and machines to
shape, finish, and remove material from metal or non-ferrous parts,
ensuring they meet specified dimensions and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- **Operating Grinding Machines:**Setting up, operating, and
maintaining our Mattison and Arter grinders.
- **Grinding and Finishing:**Grinding metal parts to remove defects,
sharp edges, scratches, and excess material.
- **Quality Control:**Inspecting finished parts to ensure they meet
specifications and quality standards, using gauges, templates, or
micrometers.
- **Material Handling:**Selecting and attaching grinding wheels,
adjusting machine controls, and ensuring a clean and safe work
environment.
- **Following Safety Procedures:**Adhering to all safety regulations
and procedures related to grinding operations.
- **Blueprint Interpretation:**Reading and interpreting technical
drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy in grinding
operations.
- **Troubleshooting:**Identifying and addressing potential issues with
the grinding process.
- **Record Keeping:**Maintaining accurate records of production output
and completing inspection reports.
- **Tool Maintenance:**Checking and maintaining grinding equipment.
- **Continuous Improvement:**Participating in and supporting
continuous process improvements.
Must have knowledge of:
- Job related materials.
- The tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of grinders.
- The hazards and safety precautions of operating moving equipment.
- Knowledge to operate an overhead crane and forklift.
Must have the ability to:
- Read and understand written orders for grinding material to desired
size, finish, etc.
- Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
- Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.
- Lift 50 pounds
- Calculate raw material requirements for production
- Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
in the English language.
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and
observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job
training setting.
- Maintain a clean, organized working environment and be a
self-starter.
- Work cooperatively with other employees and communicate effectively.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Have a proactive attitude when completing tasks to move onto the
next task helping the team meet daily goals.
- Keep a positive attitude toward accomplishing work metrics.
- Must provide own basic electrical and mechanical tools and personal
toolbox.
- Work with management and engineering departments to ensure
production deadlines are met.
Experience in the following areas is a plus
- assembly
- metal fabrication
- machinery rebuilds
- magnetics/electromagnetics
