Who We Are:
Heartwood Carpentry is a small, high-end finish carpentry business specializing in custom trim, cabinets, and staircases for luxury homes. I value precision, punctuality, and attitude over years of experience.
The Job:
- Learn a dying craft while helping make Richmond's finest homes more beautiful
- Initial tasks: Measuring/cutting, sanding, prepping/running materials, keeping the jobsite clean, etc.
- No prior experience requiredjust an eagerness to show up on time and learn.
- The goal here is that you're with me for 10+ years, by which point you are one of Richmond's best carpenters, have borrowed and read all of my carpentry books, and have cultivated strong opinions on the appropriate height for chair rail.
Youll Thrive If You:
- Think 1/16" is a pretty big gap.
- Understand that every tool we use can hurt you if you're not careful.
- Want to use phrases like "pulvinated entablature" or "crosette architrave".
- Want to join the resistance against soulless new construction.
Compensation:
- $2028/hr (based on tools/truck/skills).
- PTO (4+ weeks)
- No weekends, 8:30-5, m-f
- I'll buy you lunch pretty often
Requirements:
- Reliable transportation (truck/van is a bonus).
- Good company (we're going to spend a lot of time together, so we'd better enjoy it)
- Good hygiene, punctual, communication skills, all the basics.
- Be able to lift heavy things, bend and crouch often, be comfortable with ladders. You don't need big muscles, but this is a physical job.
To apply, reply with:
1. Your favorite tool and why.
2. A time you messed up but fixed it.
3. Any relevant experience you have.
4. Pictures of anything pretty you've created. (optional)
I welcome applicants of all backgrounds - especially those not historically represented in this trade.
