Under supervision, the Building Code Inspector is responsible for conducting field inspections of commercial and industrial construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and approved plans.
Plan and coordinate inspections and audits of assigned facilities/sites for procedural compliance and to maintain appropriate accreditation.
Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Fire, Zoning, Health) as needed during multi-discipline inspections.
Investigate complaints and reports of unsafe or non-compliant structures and take appropriate enforcement actions.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, violations, and communications.
Provide guidance and consultation regarding fire safety inspections and other related activities.
Stay current with changes in building codes, standards, and construction technology through ongoing education and training.
Provide technical assistance to contractors, architects, developers, and the public regarding code requirements and inspection processes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of job-related experience. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Note: Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.
