Description
YOU MUST BE A CURRENT METRO GOVT PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION
Supervises multiple work crews involved in road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance, right-of-way signs and markings, snow removal and other public works projects
Investigates complaints from the public regarding public works projects
Coordinates projects, enforces safe work practices and oversees field review of public works projects
Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel
Examples of Duties
Examples of Work:
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Interprets, explains and enforces regulations, policies and procedures and renders decisions
Enforces safety procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and employee safety
Attends meetings, provides information, and answers questions concerning public works operations and projects
Plans, develops, organizes and evaluates public road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance and signs and markings programs for compliance to standards and regulations and recommends modifications and improvements
Supervises, assigns work tasks and reviews completed road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance and signs and markings work assignments
Prepares and submits bid specifications and bid requests and submits recommendations concerning the procurement of road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance and signs and markings materials and equipment
Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning the operation and use of signs and markings, and light and heavy construction equipment and materials
Consults with subordinates and managers to discuss problems, procedures and work assignment progress
Delegates work and responsibilities to subordinates to achieve objectives and goals
Coordinates road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance and signs and markings projects and activities with other departmental personnel and contractors
Assists with budget preparation and prepares reports
Performs related work
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting
Must work a varied schedule
Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements
Inspects and observes work areas
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's degree
Business Administration
Construction Technology
Engineering
Engineering Technology
Public Administration
Related field
Two years of supervisory or lead road construction, road maintenance, drainage maintenance, property maintenance experience
Other Minimums:
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must provide one's own source of transportation
Must be on 24 hour call
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Special Requirements:
PUBLIC WORKS - SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
Must attend two U of K Road Scholar and Road Master program classes per year
KSA's:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Ability to operate a personal computer and other office equipment
Ability to write concise and clear reports
