This role supports OSHA compliance, internal safety standards, and corporate safety initiatives while fostering a proactive safety culture. The position also plays a key role in safety inspections, incident investigations, contractor onboarding, and ergonomic assessments.
Job Description
Safety Trainer/Engineer
Location: Tyler, TX
Pay: $67,000 - $77,000 annually depending on experience.
Schedule: Multiple-Shifts; 1st Shift Primary
What You'll Do:
Training & Documentation
Develop and manage safety training programs, including:
Classroom instruction
Hands-on training (e.g., forklifts, aerial lifts)
Brainier Computer-Based Training (CBT)
Create and distribute annual training calendars
Maintain accurate training records in compliance with OSHA and internal standards (HSP-001)
Input and manage training data in Cority, Brainier, and SharePoint; generate Excel reports and weekly payroll summaries
Conduct annual reviews of SEG (Similar Exposure Groups) compliance and training effectiveness
Prepare and submit weekly safety reports to the Safety Manager
New Hire & Transfer Onboarding
Lead onboarding sessions for new hires, covering:
Safety culture and orientation
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) awareness
Full facility tours
Job-specific introductions and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews
Conduct orientation for internal transfers, including job-specific safety training
Safety Programs & Team Leadership
Facilitate monthly Safety Representative and Ergonomics Team meetings
Utilize HumanTech software for ergonomic assessments and track corrective actions
Complete assigned findings and action items in a timely manner
Compliance & Inspections
Review safety inspection reports for hoists, mobile equipment, cranes, and grinders
Maintain compliance tracking spreadsheets and distribute monthly reports to leadership
Participate in quarterly facility inspections and support annual corporate safety audits
Issue and monitor Hot Work and Roof Access Permits as a Competent Person
Track safety-critical systems such as hoist inspections and equipment authorizations
Conduct monthly safety inspections in assigned areas
Incident Investigation & Safety Engineering
Participate in Level I and Level II incident investigations and ensure proper documentation
Assist in resolving engineering-related safety concerns
Complete scheduled Health and Safety Program (HSP) reviews
Contractor Orientation & Oversight
Conduct initial and annual contractor safety orientations; maintain documentation
Ensure contractor compliance with ISNetworld and site-specific safety requirements

Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial safety training or safety engineering
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations (e.g., LOTO, Powered Industrial Trucks, Hazard Communication)
Experience with Brainier, UltiPro, and safety data management systems (preferred)
Competent Person certifications (e.g., Roof Access, Hot Work) are advantageous
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to walk, climb, and work in hot industrial environments
Capable of delivering training in both classroom and field settings
Strong commitment to safety protocols, teamwork, and consistent attendance.
Must be able to wear PPE and follow all safety procedures without exception.
