The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) , is seeking a capable and results-driven superintendent who thrives in leadership roles and knows how to motivate and guide a team. In this position, you will administer programs related to the maintenance, repair, and technical operations of the City's two most well-known public venues: the Neal S. Blaisdell Center and the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell. This includes overseeing all preparations to ensure these facilities are ready and fully equipped for a wide range of performances and events. You will also oversee skilled trades support for the Honolulu Zoo and six municipal golf courses to ensure these beloved recreational places are clean and well-maintained.

In addition to planning, directing, and coordinating building and equipment maintenance and repair programs, you will be heavily involved with determining short and long-term budget objectives. This includes preparing budget justifications and presenting them in writing and before public panels. Beyond operational and maintenance duties, you will also support and lead your team by resolving personnel issues and overseeing your division's safety program. Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in business administration, public administration, engineering or a related field.

Substitution : Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of experience in administering and/or supervising a variety of building maintenance, repair and construction work.

Such experience must have demonstrated:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration, organization, personnel administration and budget formulation;
  • Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, and air conditioning systems and equipment used in large building structures;
  • Knowledge of the laws, codes, ordinances and regulations governing building construction and maintenance work;
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public relations;
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices;
  • The ability to plan, direct, and coordinate a building and equipment maintenance and repair program; and
  • The ability to interpret construction plans and specification and recommend necessary changes.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
