The roles main objective is to identify, design and develop process improvements for the sites chemical manufacturing processes from conception through implementation. The PE may act independently or as part of a design team to meet project goals.
This role will work closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to deliver physical modifications to the facility. The PE will have lead responsibility for conceptual development and process design for these projects. The PE will be a key team member to support the assigned Project Engineer or Manager to ensure that construction and startup operations are consistent with this design. At times, the PE may assume some project management responsibilities. The PE will also create and present project summaries and status reports to site leadership. The PE will be a leader in demonstrating safety and sustainability values.
Daily responsibilities include developing and implementing improvement projects, gathering necessary information, conducting engineering analysis and calculations to lead or support design efforts, measuring key site process metrics and project status. Process engineers work with other engineers, production employees, management, and other site manufacturing employees. This role will report to the Site Structural Productivity Leader. Responsibilities Include:
Lead project scope and design development to support strategic site improvements. For large, complex projects the PE may support a Process Development Engineer in scope and design development.
Assess, evaluate and analyze current and future processes and workflows to identify opportunities for product cost improvements. Provide input to site manufacturing strategic planning.
Participate in or lead cross functional design reviews, product and/or process FMEA's to aid in the design of new equipment and upgrades to existing equipment. Implement Management of Change process as required to meet project goals or as assigned
Coordinate with Technology to execute site production changes as needed. This may include material qualifications, changes in production processes and new product introductions.
Meet project execution schedule goals
Support project construction, including external engineering and construction firm discussions to ensure project execution.
The following are required for the role
B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering
5+ years of related industry experience
Proficiency with process chemical design (material balances, P&IDs, PFDs, equipment sizing and arrangements)
Working knowledge of continuous and batch chemical processes
Strong computer skills, including MS Office, SAP and Minitab
Ability to communicate effectively across organizational levels in a matrix organization.
Embraces safety and environmental responsibility
Proven history of delivery on commitments and a strong sense of accountability, urgency and independence
Ability to analyze data and solve complex problems that include chemical processing, business and product quality factors. Proven problem-solving skills in a manufacturing environment
Experience in all aspects of Process Safety Management, particularly including Management of Change and Process Hazards Analysis
The following are preferred for the role
Technical knowledge of silicone production processes.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
Experience participating on a team or leading projects.
Six-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and 5S experience
Knowledge of instrumentation, automation, digitization and process controls design concepts
