GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position performs carpentry-type repairs to the interiors and exteriors of the buildings on this campus. These repairs to the buildings include their furnishings, interior and exterior finishes, structures, roofs, and cement and block work. Limited new construction and remodel are also included in the duties of this position.   • Receives and reviews carpentry work orders.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and performs the work generated by these work orders and inspections.
  • The position must decide on the best method of repair and calculate and submit for ordering the parts and quantities necessary to complete the job in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • The position does not supervise any other positions.
  • Works independently, or may ask other trades to help with the completion of this work. All work is to be done in compliance with the requirements of the Life Safety Code.
  • Construct special furniture and repair existing tables, chairs, cabinets, shelving, doors, and countertops. Install or repair areas of carpet, vinyl tile, and sheet vinyl.
  • Maintain a stock of parts to repair or install new door and cabinet locks.
  • Rekey or have new keys made for doors and cabinet locks.
  • Measure, cut, install, and glaze glass as needed to replace broken windows.
  • Replace defective window screens and latches.
  • Prepare lists of materials and submit orders on the proper forms for the parts needed to repair or construct new carpentry projects.
  • Help other trades with their duties when called upon.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisors.


KNOWLEDGE:
  • Skill in the carpentry trade. The position will be working on building construction, interior finish work, roofing, cement forming, and interior furnishing repair or replacement.
  • Knowledge of the basics of carpentry with the ability to adapt that knowledge to more complex task assignments.
  • Knowledge of carpentry as applied to building design, construction, maintenance and interior furnishings, review of architect plans and contractors work during construction projects is also needed.
  • Ability to repair and maintain buildings at the facility with quality workmanship.
  • Ability and skill to do a job safely and neatly.
  • Ability to solve problems and follow through with the completion of a project with the least amount of supervision.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability for decisions.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience Substitution: 1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None
OR
Education: Associate's Degree Experience: No prior experience required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work in a variety of locations and on a variety of surfaces.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions as needed.
  • Must be able to perform work when WLRC residents are present, including those with aggressive and challenging behaviors.
