Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically inclined Dowel Operator to operate dowel insertion equipment for assembling MDF or laminated components. The ideal candidate will have experience in woodworking or cabinet production and be responsible for ensuring accurate placement and secure fit of dowels for strong, consistent joinery.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate automatic or semi-automatic dowel insertion machines to drill holes and insert wooden or plastic dowels into panels or components.

Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, or CAD drawings to determine dowel locations, spacing, and insertion depth.

Set up and adjust dowel machines for various part sizes and configurations.

Inspect components for correct dowel placement and alignment, making adjustments as needed.

Maintain and clean dowel machines, including glue systems and drill bits.

Identify and report defective materials or malfunctions in equipment.

Work closely with assembly, CNC, or edge band departments to ensure smooth workflow and part accuracy.

Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in woodworking or machinery preferred.

12 years of experience in a woodworking or furniture manufacturing environment.

Experience with dowel inserters such as Gannomat, Biesse, or similar is a plus.

Ability to read shop drawings and use basic measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares).

Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with glue-based dowel systems and drying/curing processes.

Knowledge of materials like MDF, particle board, and laminate panels.
