Job Summary
GAF is looking for an R&D Mechanical Project Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining excellence in developing, executing and controlling assigned projects to achieve plant goals. Through expert application of engineering techniques and principles, the incumbent will conduct analyses and investigations pertaining to construction of new facilities and enhancements for existing facilities to optimize productive capability of the plant. We encourage the Project Engineer to make sound recommendations, considering such factors as cost, maintainability, facility of production and availability of materials and equipment with emphasis on safety and optimum performance. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, highly adaptive and capable of managing multiple engineering assignments. This position will require 25% travel to lead and assist R&D on project installs or testing as required.

Essential Duties

  • Analyze all facets of proposed projects and provide detailed cost, schedule, and justification estimates to support capital expenditures. Interface with maintenance and production to ascertain and identify operational maintenance problems and opportunities. Conduct engineering and project analysis and follow through with major and minor project recommendations, justification and implementation. Apply engineering principles including modeling and simulation with external vendors and consultants.
  • Manage all aspects of multiple projects including design construction, vendor management, cost tracking, operational interfaces and operations preparation, and startup. Analyze systems, research options, and determine the most optimum cost/benefit relationship to deliver capital projects.
  • Coordinate between contractors, vendors, and GAF to manage, engineer, and implement projects in the smoothest and most efficient manner without causing production delays or upsets.
  • Identify and execute improvements on project equipment, documentation, work systems, and processes
  • Install and/or manage the installation of various mechanical and electronic equipment related to device signal transmitting and receiving.
  • Collaborate with different levels of employees in various departments of the facility through face-to-face, telephone, and email.
  • Research system and component specifications using equipment manuals, schematics, parts breakdowns, online information, and vendor communication.
  • Must have strong mechanical and physical dexterity skills to work with hand and power tools as required to assemble and test R&D projects in a lab environment while maintaining high self-awareness to ensure a safe work environment.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelors Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical with Mechanical preferred) coupled with a minimum of 3 years project management experience.
    Preferred
  • Working knowledge of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, & procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others as a lead engineer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide expertise in maintenance, operations, and process.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for operations and maintenance personnel
  • Advanced proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatics
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Advanced demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drive system fundamentals
  • Utilize standard industry tools like digital multimeters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes to perform diagnostic tests and readings.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with computers and Gsuite/MSOffice. Drafting experience with CAD, preferably Auto CAD, is preferred.
Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.Base Salary Range: $84,000-$115,500 How We Protect What Matters Most: 1.
