ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional Safety Manager will manage an on-going safety program by providing for and assisting in the establishment and implementation of plans, policies, and procedures for MYR Group. This position requires the personal skills to be an effective leader and the ability to inspire individuals by communicating needed changes, motivating individuals to become active participating members of a team, and encouraging self-development through a leadership example approach.

Essential Functions

  • Manage on-going safety program

    • Coordinate and encourage a positive safety culture within operations, procedures, communications, best practices, and personnel management

    • Participate in and support Operations with Client meetings, events, pre-bid meetings, pre-qualification needs and incident reviews

    • Ensure proper safety staffing for construction projects and district locations

    • Coordinate cross-training and conduct training for Safety Managers and Engineers as necessary

  • Provide input and assist with development and presentation of training on all aspects of the safety management and accident prevention programs

    • Verify fieldwork compliance with federal, state and local regulations, company policy, and industry best practices; identify and correct unsafe practices

    • Provide technical and professional assistance to eliminate or control unsafe conditions and behavior

  • Assist in the completion of accident\incident investigations for area of responsibility

  • Receive, review, and participate in the development and distribution of accident briefs, safety-related publications, bulletins, reports, directives from industry peers, manufacturers and government agencies and recommend preventive actions

  • Develop and maintain liaison with other safety related organizations, manufacturers, government agencies and all operating companies

  • Conduct and report on advance notice and no-notice inspections, surveys, and evaluations as necessary

  • Audit and provide meaningful feedback, professional development opportunities, as well as leadership and guidance to safety specialists and managers

  • Advise the Director of Safety,VP, the EMC and district management on methods to improve the MYR accident prevention program

    • Provide progress reports on safety activities, safety reports, and safety studies

    • Maintain all safety records required per company policy and federal, state, and local regulations

    • Prepare evaluation and inspection reports with recommended corrective actions and submit them to the Director of Safety and Operations

  • Receive, process, and ensure all Incident/Accident Reports and concern/hazard reports within their area of responsibility are promptly reported to the VP of Safety to maintain a current, accurate Incident/Accident Report file to include a Master Log and OSHA 300 Logs.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Regular and predictable attendance

  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location

  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards


ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with electrical transmission, distribution line construction or substation construction in either an Electric Lineman or Safety-specific role
  • Management experience within a safety role
  • Experience with Risk Management
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
  • Safety-related credentials (i.e. OSHA 500’s, OTI certifications, etc)
  • Professional Certifications highly preferred (i.e. ASP, CSP, CUSP)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of safety principles and practices, as well as safety rules, regulations and procedures
  • Good knowledge of principles and practices of electric utility operations and construction
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of industrial hygiene; pertinent regulations and laws governing employee safety
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials, and Workers Compensation practices and procedures with emphasis on utility and construction employee applications
  • Basic knowledge of principles, procedures and best practices of training and adult instruction;
  • Proven ability to understand, simplify, communicate and implement applicable Federal/State regulatory standards; conduct safety audits and inspections of construction and maintenance facilities and job sites
  • Proven ability to develop and conduct training programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Good ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite, computer systems and other related office equipment.
  • Through knowledge and understanding of MYR Group's policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide evaluation, feedback, and mentorship to direct reports
  • Ability to promote professional development of direct reports within a positive environment

  • Salary Commensurate with experience, paid weekly.
