Position Overview: NIRA, Inc., is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The role involves working as a consultant in the review of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) designs for various FAA facilities critical to FAA air traffic operations. In this role you will also act as a subject matter expert providing mechanical engineering support for design standards. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work within various teams, proactively resolve issues, and present solutions to senior leadership. Key Responsibilities Include: Review mechanical design packages for FAA facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems. Provide expert analysis of drawings, specifications, and submittals for compliance with FAA guidelines, building codes, and industry best practices. Offer recommendations and written technical feedback to improve mechanical system performance, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, architects, civil engineers, and FAA project managers. Evaluate design modifications and engineering changes to ensure continued compliance with FAA standards. Assist in developing and updating FAA mechanical design criteria and technical documentation. Participate in design meetings and provide real-time technical consultation throughout the design lifecycle. Perform and interpret cooling load calculations. Participate/Lead change management activities, develop documentation, presentations, briefings, white papers, etc. Cultivate strong relationships with key FAA stakeholders, understanding their needs and providing tailored engineering solutions. Identify potential risks across the program and offer strategies to minimize project disruptions. Serve as a liaison between the Program Office and Service Areas, coordinate project management activities, such as project scope, cost, and schedule issues. Analyze, distill, and present data in high-visibility FAA key stakeholder meetings. Develop and maintain integrated spreadsheets including program/project implementation activities, financial data, schedules, etc. to assist with FAA decision making. Key Requirements: Bachelor's Degree (Preferable discipline in Mechanical Engineering). Minimum of 10 years of related work experience. Building design and engineering experience required (federal design experience is a plus). Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Be quality conscious with focus on delivering products of a high caliber. Demonstrated experience in MS Excel; Word; Outlook. Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize assignments and workload. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong data analysis, program evaluation and critical thinking skills. Ability to employ problem-solving techniques in unique situations.
