Preferred Qualifications
- EIT (Engineer in Training) certification
- Experience with coding, database management, and Building Information Modeling(BIM).
- Able to design using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including ASHRAE, the International Building Code (IBC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes.
- Able to use HVAC load calculation software such as Trane Trace 3D.
- Previous experience working for design Engineering firm
Position Summary
This is an entry-level position reporting directly to the Head Mechanical Engineer. The incumbent will assist in the design, design development, field verification, and construction administration of additions, alterations, renovations, and repairs to mechanical systems; including HVAC, chilled water, heating hot water, steam, forced air, and building automation controls and plumbing systems such as sanitary, domestic water, laboratory gas, compressed air, and vacuum.
This role primarily supports projects within existing University buildings. The majority of work will be conducted under the direct supervision of the Head Mechanical Engineer and in close coordination with other members of the Engineering Department team. The position will involve drafting in Revit and AutoCAD, performing load calculations, developing construction documents, and reviewing submittals and shop drawings. The candidate will design in accordance with the appropriate codes, and standards required per the state of Georgia.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable 2D/3D design and drafting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with the ability to leverage data to improve work performance.
- Solid understanding of fluid hydraulics and the ability to apply this knowledge to perform system calculations using software such as Pipe-Flo.
- Solid understanding of heat transfer principles and the ability to perform heat load calculations.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly in the context of mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering principles and their application in building systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.

Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of computer use
- Frequent walking navigating uneven terrain or active construction sites
- Able to work in varying weather conditions.
- Climbing stairs or ladders,
- Accessing confides spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, and utility tunnels.
- Lifting or carrying equipment up to 25 pounds and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity are essential for drafting, reviewing technical documents, and performing field verifications.

Mechanical Design:
- Perform detailed field verification of existing conditions
- Review and approve CAD and Revit drafting
- Conduct computer-aided calculations
- Assist others with their design work
- Obtain project requirements for the client.

Production of Mechanical Design Specifications.

Conduct Field Surveys and Data Gathering.

Updating campus-wide chilled water distribution models, campus-wide one-line steam diagrams, and BIM database.
