UES is seeking a versatile Professional Engineer to join our Materials Testing Group. As a nationwide leader in Engineering, Earth Sciences, and Sustainability, we're looking for a skilled PE who can review field reports, provide stamped closure documents for building pads and materials testing QC projects, and adapt to multiple roles related to our testing and inspection services. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and client-focused problem-solving skills to support our growing portfolio of projects. An engineer with experience in the construction and geotechnical industry is preferred.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Review and approve field reports and provide PE-stamped closure documents for building pads, foundation systems, and materials testing QC projects
Lead and manage materials testing operations including field investigations, laboratory testing, and quality control processes
Perform engineering analyses and develop technical solutions for various projects related to construction materials, geotechnical conditions, and infrastructure systems
Develop and optimize material mix designs (asphalt, concrete) in accordance with project specifications and performance criteria
Evaluate pavement conditions and develop design recommendations based on field data and laboratory testing
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and engineering recommendations for diverse project applications
Project Management
Coordinate project activities, resources, and schedules to ensure timely delivery and budget compliance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, construction, and environmental professionals
Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
Review construction plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and provide direction to inspectors and contractors on adherence to plans and specifications
Contribute to proposal development, cost estimates, and project planning
Operational Support
Provide oversight for laboratory and field testing operations to ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant standards
Support department profitability through effective resource management and utilization
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to material performance and site conditions
Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, codes, and best practices
Contribute to business development efforts by maintaining client relationships and identifying new opportunities
Team Development
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
Support professional development and knowledge sharing within the team
Assist in training programs to ensure staff competency in testing procedures and engineering principles
Qualifications
Education and Licensure
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Nevada or ability to obtain reciprocity within 3 months.
Relevant certifications in materials testing a plus (e.g., ACI, ICC, DOT certifications)
Experience
5+ years of professional experience in engineering roles related to materials testing, geotechnical engineering, or construction services
Demonstrated experience reviewing field reports and acting as responsible engineer for materials testing projects.
Experience in laboratory testing, field investigations, and engineering analysis
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, ICC, ACI, ASCE)
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to construction and materials testing
Experience in preparing technical specifications, reports, and engineering recommendations
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of materials properties, soil mechanics, and construction methods
Experience with pavement design, mix designs, or geotechnical assessments and/or investigations
Ability to analyze and interpret test data and translate findings into practical engineering solutions
Professional Skills
Strong project coordination and time management abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Client-focused mindset with business development aptitude
