Due to available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $29.22 per hour.

Why does the job exist?

This position will maintain electrical systems and ensure that they are in working order throughout all facilities and that work is performed in accordance with relevant codes.

How does it get done?

  • Maintain and repair lighting and electrical systems throughout as adult correctional facility
  • Direct and participate in installation, alterations, repair and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Supervision of inmate work crews within an adult correctional facility

Ideal Candidate

Experience with the following:

  • Working as an electrician
  • Working in other areas of maintenance
  • Operating vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalency and one (1) year of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems to include wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures in accordance with applicable 2017 New Mexico Electrical Code 14.10.4. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must possess and maintain a Journeyman's Electrician license with New Mexico Construction Industries.

Employment Requirements

This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre-employment Academy screening. Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have a least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Statutory Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a Journeyman's Electrician license with New Mexico Construction Industries.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
