Position Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate readiness of designated facilities in
support of the schedule and programs of the school by installing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing the
heating and cooling, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and related building systems. The workday begins at 8:00 am
am and ends at 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Weekends, holidays and additional hours for William Penn
Charter School events may be necessary.

Essential Functions

  • Observing all safety regulations and policies.
  • Executing assigned duties within the scope of the Operational Employee Policies & Procedures Handbook.
  • Performing routine repair and replacement of electrical power, lighting and communication systems components.
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of documentation for all power and lighting panels, feeders, circuits, transformers, switchgear, motors and other electrical equipment.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of emergency electrical systems including but not limited to generator sets, battery packs, lights, switching devices, etc.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of fire alarm systems including but not limited to panels, wiring, detectors, pull stations and other related equipment and devices.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and replacement, as required, of lighting system components including but not limited to lamps, ballasts, fixtures, wiring, raceways, diffusers, anchors/mounts and other related devices.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of controls, motors and related devices of HVAC systems.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of plumbing systems and equipment including but not limited to domestic hot and cold water distribution, sprinkler supply, gas distribution, sanitary lines, pumps, valves and related equipment devices.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of heating systems and equipment including but not limited to motors, fans, drive assemblies, pumps, thermostats, insulation, burner assemblies, combustion chambers, filters, coils and related equipment and devices.
  • Periodic inspection, cleaning and testing of air conditioning systems and equipment including but not limited to motors, drive assemblies, air ducts, insulation, filters, pumps, piping, wires, compressors, condensers, driers and coils.
  • Repairing, replacing and installing windows and related hardware; performing all re-glazing tasks within the capabilities of shop tools and equipment.
  • Repairing furniture, including desks, tables, chairs, etc. Building and installing lockers, cabinets and partitions.
  • Repairing and replacing doors and all related hardware including but not limited to locks, latches, door checks, etc.
  • Remodeling designated areas in accordance with plans and specifications; repairing and installing flooring, sheet goods, tile, etc.
  • Checking and repairing playground equipment and documenting work done.
  • Maintaining records of time and material used on each project or work order.
  • Assisting with event set ups and breakdowns as required.
  • In case of emergencies, inclement weather or disasters you will be required to be at work and additional hours if necessary including weekends, holidays and snow days.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Quaker Education and the Religious Society of Friends
  • Related experience in working in a PK-12 school environment

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years field or shop experience in the construction industry or building maintenance service preferable in an educational environment.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP and Office.
  • Physical ability to perform duties as outlined.
  • Valid drivers license with no moving violations in the last three years.
  • Satisfactory personal background check in compliance with Pennsylvania law.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
