Job Description:Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads both students and employers for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College ( TCC ) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC . TCCs institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will perform building management and maintenance activities within the scope of the employees technical competence. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, coordinate performance of maintenance activities that are beyond that scope or that require greater resources than are assigned to the Virginia Beach Joint Use Library. Provide routine facilities services and assistance to building occupants.
This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position shall be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s). During an event this position is required to work outside of the normal responsibilities to include items such as snow removal.
This is a restricted funded position.
Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications:- Knowledge and skills in a specific building trade
- Knowledge of several building trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, HVAC , electrical, etc.)
- Ability to supervise and train assigned employees in facilities maintenance activities
- Skills in using common tools and equipment necessary to maintain facilities
- Ability to interpret blueprint and layout plans
- Ability to interpret computer-based equipment control systems
Additional Considerations:
- Experience at the Journeyman level in one of the building trades.
- Journeymans license in one of the building trades or ability to obtain.
- Experience supervising personnel performing facilities maintenance tasks.
