**Natural Gas Pipefitter Specialist**

Our Gas Construction Compliance department is hiring a Natural Gas Pipefitter Specialist to support natural gas pipeline installations and maintenance efforts. Our pipefitters are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to the natural gas industry; pinpointing the location of and classifying gas leaks; and ensuring that underground utilities have been located and job sites are safe prior to utility work being performed. If you have completed a gas pipefitter apprenticeship and/or have demonstrated experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines, we want to hear from you!

**_Please note that this position will be filled as a Pipefitter Specialist ($44.85 with a 5% pay increase to$47.09 after a 6-month probationary period)_**

A day in the life of a Journey Natural Gas Pipefitter may include:

+ Installing gas mains and service lines, and locating and classifying leaks

+ Tapping low and high pressure pipelines

+ Operating leak detection equipment

+ Safe handling of gas main/service lines

+ Operating gas construction excavation equipment

+ Locating underground pipelines and utilities

+ Reading and complying with blueprints and specifications for projects

+ Preparing work sites for installations and compacting excavations

+ Operating and performing maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including trucks, compressors, pumps, generators, and a variety of power tools

In addition to the above, Pipefitters at the Specialist level perform the following:

+ Lead gas construction crews at jobs site, providing teams with technical guidance and oversight and assist in training to Gas Pipefitters

+ Performing work using specialized tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of our natural gas distribution system

**Experience Qualifications:**

+ You must be able to perform work while wearing a supplied air breathing apparatus, including the ability to pass a full-face mask SCBA fit test

+ Must have successfully completed a Gas Pipefitter Apprenticeship (DOL or NDOL), or offer a minimum of four (4) years experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines

+ Proficient in natural gas emergency response

+ Be proficient in at least two (2) programs of work

+ Emergency Leak Repair

+ High pressure steel distribution

+ Large scale main and service renewals

+ Individual service line replacements

**Licensing and Certification Requirements:**

+ Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license

+ Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with airbrake and tanker endorsement, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire and maintain

+ Ability to obtain and maintain all required Operator Qualifications (OQ) per the Colorado Springs Utilities OQ document, and complete additional relevant training

**Emergency Callout and Standby Expectations:**

+ You will be required to pull stand-by, overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call-outs as the business needs demand

+ You will be prepared to work in hazardous conditions and be prepared to work in inclement weather

+ This position is designated as a first responder for emergencies

+ _The successful candidate is required to stay in the service territory while on standby_
