Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking an experienced Urban Planner to support our Federal practice. This role can be seated in Orange, CA, Detroit, MI, Denver, CO, Dallas, TX or Columbus, OH offices.
For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work on our hybrid schedule being a combination of in office time and remote work. This is a part time casual position, with variable hours schedule.

In parallel, our Federal Planning Group focuses on providing strategic planning and advisory services to federal agencies across various sectors. Whether it's infrastructure development, environmental planning, or military installations, our team leverages its technical expertise and understanding of federal requirements to deliver mission-critical projects on time and within budget. Job Overview:
As an Urban Planner on our Federal team at AECOM, you will be a key team member supporting the planning and developing projects for various federal agencies. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of urban planning within the context of federal projects, while also contributing to the successful delivery of planning solutions that meet client needs, regulations, and best practices to ensure that projects align with federal guidelines and objectives.
This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support planning teams on multi-disciplinary master planning projects for military installations world-wide
- Author planning reports
- Organize and Facilitate Planning Workshops
- Offer leadership and guidance to planning team in identifying client-requirements and creating innovative solutions
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Geography
- 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience or education.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in master planning /site planning with at least 4 of those year focused on master planning of military installations or other federal facilities
- Strong writing skills
- AICP/ RA certification/license track
- Strong workshop facilitation skills
- Ability to analyze data pertaining to space utilization, constraints to development, and future requirements and present conclusion
- Strong background with military master/community planning and architectural design
- Strong AutoCAD skills
- Sponsorship for work authorization is not available now or in the future for this role
- This is a part time casual position, with variable hours schedule.
