**A Brief Summary of This Position**

This position is responsible for the set-up and operation of the flux core sub-arc seam welding machine to place a continuous seamed weld on one or two sides of the pole shafts.

**Shift: Mon-Thurs 9pm-7am

Starting Hourly Rate: $25.95 - $27.01 + $1.00 per hour for shift differential

Essential Functions:**

Fuse (weld) metal structural components together by means of multiple forms of Submerged Arc Welding processes in the fabrication of steel electrical poles and other structures

Perform welding operations requiring most of the following: planning and layout, working from blueprints and drawings or other specifications; requires a knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals; setting up work and determining operation sequences; welding objects involving critical safety and load requirements; working in a variety of positions

Perform repetitive types of assembling operations according to procedures established by others; and use hand tools and measuring devices in the performance of work

Move pole shafts using an overhead crane and gather parts and materials to complete the project

Other duties as required and/or assigned

**Important Details about the Role**

Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty

Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery

Read and decipher blueprints and flat sheets correctly and without assistance

Work under conditions with accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits

Accountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with the maintenance of these tools and equipment

Actively participate in department safety, demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

This position reports to the Production Supervisor

**Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)**

Successful completion of an internal welding test

One (1) year previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

One (1) year previous experience welding in a professional environment

Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)

Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals

The ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or shop drawings

The ability to set up work and determine operation sequence

The ability to calculate formulas using basic mathematics and standard U.S. and Metric Measurements

The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues

The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people

The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions

The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment

The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with most frequent lift up to 20 pounds

Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations

Maintain a safe and productive working environment

**Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Pos ess These Qualifications**

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Graduation from an accredited trade school for welding

Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

**Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:**

Work is primarily performed in an indoor shop environment. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, smoke and confined spaces. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.

**Hazards:**

This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
