Job Description:

Provides design and engineering services to internal and external customers, including engineer research, testing, prototype production, project management, contractor management, and on-site support. Ensures optimal production qualities in order to maximize product quality, ease of assembly, minimize tooling cost, reduce cycle time, and otherwise increase production efficiency. Explores and develops business opportunities that are both presented by customer and self-initiated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts engineering activities in accordance with policies, plans, procedures, instructions, and standards under the direction of the Vice President of Engineering.

  • Understands and implements the ConMet Quality Policy as applied to this job function.

  • Implements continuous improvement in support of the ConMet Quality Policy.

  • Participates in cross-functional Quality planning to fulfill customer requirements.

  • Conducts design activities based upon all available customer specifications and quality requirements.

  • Conducts and documents test activities which may include:

  • Project Proposal, Planning, and Approval.

  • 2D Drawing, 3D Modeling (permanent molds and prototypes), structural analysis, stress analysis, testing, and interpretation of results.

  • Acting as Customer liaison for technical support, changes, and solution proposal.

  • Interfacing with Tooling, Manufacturing, Sales and other ConMet functions both informally and in formal Design Reviews.

  • Design Verification, Validation, and Release.

  • Identifies, creates, and manages controlled documents within the functional area in accordance with Engineering Procedures and Instructions.

  • Generates and controls design activity documents (i.e. drawings, ECN's, Test Reports, Specifications, Design Review Minutes, Bills of Ops, etc.).

  • Provides all necessary specifications and requirements to Purchasing for inclusion on Purchase Orders, including product description, Supplier Quality Requirements, and reference to current revision levels on drawings and specifications.

  • Produces configuration documents that define product and process specifications, changes, and deviations from specifications.

  • Specifies the tests to be performed, test equipment and facilities required, and the use of SPC for characteristics identified to be sensitive to process variance.

  • Participates in material review meetings as necessary to assist in determining the cause of non-conformances.

  • Contributes to corrective action in response to non-conformances; assess whether a design modification would contribute to a more effective solution.

  • Documents engineering activities as described in approved Procedures and/or Instructions and forwards them to the Engineering Document Administrator for retention as Quality Records.

  • Participates in Internal Quality Audits as requested by Management.

  • Participates in vocational and Quality System training, both self-directed and as directed by Engineering Management, forwards training information to the Engineering Document Administrator for retention on Professional Development Record.

  • Conducts design and testing activities, which may include FMEAs, longevity analysis, fatigue analysis, tolerance stack-up probability, and analysis of test results; specifies the application of SPC for characteristics identified to be sensitive to process variance.

  • Maintains awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives. Understands the importance of ensuring customer quality standards are met. Responsibilities may include the selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics information, customer scorecards, and customer portals.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, followed by five (5) years of experience in an engineering occupation.

Experience must include:

  • 5 years of experience with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and/or manual drafting skills.
  • 5 years of experience with blueprint reading to ANSI Specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • 5 years of experience with three-dimensional visualization skills. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5 Metrology capabilities with basic instruments, such as micrometer and comparator.
  • 5 years of experience with R&D/Innovation: Examines opportunities to create sustainable competitive advantages, sees failures as learning occasions, able consider options for multiple business units, and think long-term.
  • 5 years of Planning/Project Management: Develops realistic plans, sets goals, aligns plans with company goals, plans for and manages resources, creates contingency plans, coordinates/cooperates with others on projects, spends resources wisely and produces the desired results.

OR

Master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, followed by three (3) years of experience in an engineering occupation.

Experience must include:

  • 3 years of experience with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and/or manual drafting skills.

Travel up to 5% of the time domestically and internationally.
