HVAC Apprentice Facilities Management

Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY

Assist the Facilities Management department in fulfilling the mission of Southern Nazarene University by performing maintenance, repairs, and renovations on University facilities and fixtures using skills related to the HVAC trade, to provide safe, attractive, and functional facilities, and foster an environment conducive to quality Christian living and learning. Under the supervision of the HVAC supervisor and/or officials responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform the duties peculiar to, and generally required in, the trade of HVAC Apprentice, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

Including, but not limited to:

• Coordinates with supervisor and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
• Maintains tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.
• Prepares written materials (e.g., filter inventory, work orders, equipment inventory, etc.) to document activities, providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Repairs and maintains various systems and/or equipment as directed to ensure they are in safe working conditions and provide comfort within facilities.
• Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.), ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
• Replaces filters, faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances, as directed.
• Handle and read a variety of hand tools and meters.
• As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
• Ability to provide quality customer service
• Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Valid drivers license
• Hours worked will be applied to a licensed apprenticeship under the supervision of the HVAC Supervisor, who is a Licensed Contractor
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment
• Typing and spelling competency
• Must be able to perform all job functions, including but not limited to bending, squatting, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting 50 pounds unassisted (200 pounds with others assisting), must be able to push or pull heavy loads, fixtures and equipment.
• Must be able to work from lifts, scaffolding, and high platforms, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and crawl to gain access to work areas.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces and from heights.
• Needs good dexterity in small, tedious work and coordination in heavier, more demanding tasks.
• Needs good near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision in carrying out assigned tasks and reading a variety of hand tools and meters.
• Required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some college coursework
• Experience in higher education

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for coordinating work assignments for student employees.
