Are you looking for an opportunity to lead a highly trained team of Operations and Maintenance staff and be a part of creating the strategic direction for a complex wastewater treatment system? The Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) in King County (KC) is hiring a shift operations supervisor for the C Shift Operations team at the South Treatment Plant. The ideal incumbent will lead a core group of 6 certified operators and is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations and maintenance work for the entire treatment plant.

Wastewater Shift Supervisor
You will serve in a key Operations & Maintenance leadership role that reports to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager and collaborates across plant leadership to ensure the safe and effective treatment of wastewater. This position serves the critical role of managing a team that is responsible for the operating the South Treatment Plant. The successful candidate has a combination of knowledge and experience that demonstrates technical acumen in plant operations, maintenance & process.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Supervising personnel who monitor, operate, and maintain a wastewater treatment facility and/or collection and conveyance system.

  • Incumbents ensure compliance with appropriate local, Washington State and federal air, wastewater and safety regulations and requirements and are responsible for planning long- and short-term workload, budgeting, personnel training, and performance management.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

What You Bring:

  • Knowledge of the description, function and major components for plant-wide gas, chlorination, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, odor control, electrical, water, air and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of the description, function, major components, causes for alarms and remote monitoring and control system for the equipment and systems in the preliminary, primary and secondary, solids handling, odor control and/or collection and conveyance systems.
  • Knowledge of the description and function of computerized remote and supervisory control systems used to control, operate and monitor a major wastewater treatment system.
  • Knowledge of operating, monitoring, maintaining and training on the equipment and systems in the preliminary treatment area, primary treatment area, secondary area, solids handling area and, in the collection, and conveyance system and systems for plant-wide gas, chlorination, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, odor control, electrical, water, air and hydraulic systems.

Required Licenses:
  • Washington State Group III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification
  • Washington State Driver's License

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • Washington State Group IV or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification from the Washington State Department of Ecology or out-of-state equivalency which must be converted to a Washington certification within one year of employment.
  • CPR and First AID Certification

  • Working Conditions: Onsite - Work Location: 1200 Monster Rd SW, Renton, WA 98057

  • Onsite Work Details: This position will follow the respective Shift Schedule for the crew that they are assigned but may be assigned to any shift. Shift crews work two 11.7-hour day shifts followed by two 11.7-hour night shifts, followed by four days off. Applicants must be available to work any assigned schedule.

  • Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, you must be available to work, nights, weekends and holidays. This position works a rotating shift schedule for C Crew. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

  • Physical Requirements : Lifting to 50lbs, outdoor work.

  • Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117 .
