Job Summary
This position performs electrical maintenance and repair functions in support of water, reclaimed water storage and pumping, wastewater treatment, and other department and city operations .
Job Responsibilities
Performs maintenance and repair s of all electrical systems at water, reclaimed water storage and pumping, and wastewater treatment plant and lift stations
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs on high voltage electrical systems , including motor control centers, switch gears, distribution wiring, motor electrical components, and related equipment.
- Performs electrical maintenance and repairs of wastewater plant equipment, water storage and pumping station equipment, and lift station equipment.
- Performs electrical system installation, maintenance, and repairs at parks and recreation facilities.
- Assists contractors with electrical expertise at any special events .
- Works with other City departments or divisions for street lighting, crosswalks, athletic field lighting, and irrigation system installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Creates and maintains preventive and predictive maintenance program routines for motor electrical comp onents, high voltage transformers, breakers, distribution panels, electrical motor control centers, variable frequency drives and soft-starts.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies when on-call is periodically assigned.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and components.
- Knowledge of industrial and commercial electrical principles and practices.
- Knowledge of state and national electrical codes.
- Knowledge of fire and life safety principles and standards.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant and lift station operations, maintenance, and repair principles.
- Skills in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skills in working safely around high voltage electrical currents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires some experience in maintenance, repair of electrical systems. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications at the Citys sole discretion.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL drivers license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated .
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied electrical system installations, maintenance, and repair duties. Working at high elevations, in confined spaces, and in the vicinity of high voltage electricity contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems. Success in this position contributes to the provision of the efficiency and effectiveness of department as well as city operations.
Guidelines include state and national electrical codes, safety regulations, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection , and interpretation in application.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is generally standing , walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light, and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- Work performed is generally outdoors , occasionally in cold or inclement weather conditions. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and high voltage electricity. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- This is an essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and action to prepare, repair, and recover the City be f ore, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or man-made ).
