Job Description

We are seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to join our San Diego office. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a leadership position, overseeing structural engineering efforts across a wide range of project types and complexities. You'll be responsible for managing discipline-specific budgets, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality structural solutions.

This is an on-site position based in our San Diego office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership:

Lead the structural discipline on projects of varying size and complexity, from concept through construction. Manage discipline-specific budgets and ensure alignment with project goals and client expectations.

  • Team Management & Mentorship:

Direct and support a team of engineers and designers (Entry-Level to Senior), overseeing workflows, task execution, and professional development.

  • Client & Stakeholder Coordination:

Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and external partners. Coordinate with internal disciplines to ensure seamless project integration.

  • Technical Oversight:

  • Develop and review construction drawing packages and specifications for advanced and complex projects.

  • Conduct quality checks, including technical verification of design calculations and documentation.

  • Identify and resolve non-compliant conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.

  • Construction Support:

Provide advanced support during construction phases, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reporting.

  • Project Planning:

Collaborate with Project Managers on proposals, man-hour estimates, and scheduling for the structural scope of work.

  • Design Leadership:

Lead system design programming and master planning efforts. Guide the execution of advanced structural designs and ensure technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in discipline-specific field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience for Lead position, preferably in a design firm setting
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior position, preferably in a design firm setting
  • Proficiency in structural-specific software
  • Advanced experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing list of discipline systems designs
  • Advanced experience with the structural material codes
  • Intermediate experience with other applicable industry standards
  • Intermediate experience with applicable building codes
  • Proficient at advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination
  • Proficient at coordinating with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers
  • Proficient at structural design calculations with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with internal discipline design and engineering training presentations
  • Experience with troubleshooting issues with discipline and systems

Additional Information

The pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is based in San Diego is typically $140,625-225,000. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. The selected candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, CRB offers a total rewards package that includes comprehensive insurance coverage as well as the opportunity to participate in one or more annual incentive programs based on company and individual performance.
