The Physical Plant - Building Maintenance Department at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, TN, is seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Technician to join our facilities team. This position requires a strong understanding of HVAC principles along with a broad range of experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial or commercial HVAC systems.

Key responsibilities include:

• Install, repair, maintain, adjust, overhaul, and service refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and ventilation systems.
• Assist with the repair and overhaul of pumps and air compressors.
• Modify or adjust thermostats and control systems as needed.
• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and HVAC-related equipment.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment supporting campus-wide operations.

Employees in this class work under general supervision and must be available to work any assigned shift or schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Overtime may be required based on operational demands. As part of the Facilities team, this position is considered essential personnel and may be required to report to work during emergency closures or inclement weather conditions to perform critical duties, including snow and ice removal.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two (2) years of relevant experience or vocational training
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications Salary $21.33 an hour
