The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

General Support Services (GSS) /Print Shop is recruiting for one (1) Supervisor of Office Machine Operations II to function as Finishing Section Supervisor who will:

  • Operate and supervise staff that operates various print production equipment such as: Digital cutsheet and roll feed toner and inkjet printing production devices both color and mono print. Operate Prizm cutters, Duplo folding machines, laminators, strapping machines, shrink wrap machines, bindery equipment, etc.
  • Set up color and mono print jobs using print controller and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure page alignment, front and back registration is aligned, and print quality is without artifacts and color defects.
  • Choose all paper options with appropriate parameters & properties and supervise others in same.
  • Plan and assigns work to subordinate staff in accordance with the required workload and established deadlines.
  • Perform spot quality checks on all finished and printed materials to reduce waste and the potential for bad products going to the customers.
  • Responsible for updating the job as completed and shipped in the job tracking system "EPS PACE" MIS system.
  • Ensure print and finishing equipment are maintained and kept in good working condition.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on proper operation of machines/equipment.
  • Assist machine operators when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in the operation of office machines, such as photocopying machines, state-of-the-art scanning and digital reproduction equipment, including bin sorters and bin collectors, blueprint copying machines, digital postal machines, digital cutters, offset and bookbinding equipment, platemakers and associated equipment. An associate degree or 60 credits from an accredited college may be substituted for one year of experience; or

  2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must have at least one year of experience as stated in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience operating various printing press types including sheetfeed and rollfeed presses. - Comfortable operating a PC including sending emails and making job status updates. - Effective verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to lift 25lbs

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
