Position Summary
This position is responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of traffic signal equipment and other electrical devices at the journeyman level of skill and experience.
This position performs inspection and acceptance of work performed by contractors. This position also reviews traffic signal and lighting system plans prepared by the region's engineers or consultants to provide an electrician's perspective on the quality of the designs and plans. The position will also review incoming Digger Hotline requests and locate WisDOT facilities in the field.
The position requires making service calls and emergency repairs of malfunctioning and damaged traffic signals throughout the region during and after normal business hours, including nighttime, weekends, and holidays. This position is required to work after-hours emergency signal standby, on a rotational basis with the other electricians.

Salary Information
Starting hourly rate will be between $45.17 and $46.65 per hour, depending on the amount of paid leave selected. The position is in pay schedule/range is 04-00. A twelve month probationary period is required. This position is represented by the Wisconsin State Building Trades bargaining unit.
Job Details
Electrician special requirements:
- Valid Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician License or Master Electrician License as defined in Chapter 101.862 Wis. Stats.
- Within the first 6 months of hire, a valid Wisconsin Commercial Drivers License (CDL), type "B", with endorsements for air brakes and tankers is required for this position. Holders of the CDL are subject to random Drug and Alcohol Testing under Federal Regulations.Work at heights up to 40 feet for the inspection and/or replacement of street lighting, WisDOT facility electrical equipment, and signs.
- Lift materials and/or equipment that weigh in the range of 75 to 100 pounds for repair and/or replacement of street lighting, WisDOT facility electrical equipment, and signs.
- Operation of construction equipment such as jackhammer, concrete saw, trencher, or auger truck.
- The ability to exert 150 pounds of pulling strength daily, such as used in pulling cables into conduits.
- The ability to climb in and out of trenches on a regular basis.
- The ability to walk over rough, irregular surfaces such as typical on road construction projects on a regular basis.
- The ability to work outside in all types of weather.
- Training in first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Continuous first aid refresher and CPR training is required every year.
- Safety harnesses are required for any work six feet above a surface that may or may not be above ground.
- This position is required to serve in standby status as a member of the region's Statewide Incident Notification Team on an as needed basis.

Qualifications
A valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (CDL), type "B", with endorsements for air brakes, that permits operation of trucks weighing 26,000 pounds or more will be required within the first 6 months of employment. Holders of CDL are subject to pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing under Federal Regulations. Prior to appointment for position(s) filled from this announcement, candidates will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, per U.S. DOT s382.301. Hired candidates must be able to meet the DOT fleet standards for driving a state vehicle.
