Summary Job Description:

The responsibility of the Field Carpenter is to provide on-site carpentry assistance during all phases of the construction project.

Essential Functions:

  • General understanding of blueprint reading
  • Understanding how to utilize tools like tape measures, levels, and squares.
  • Constructing and assembling structural components, such as walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
  • Installing framing for windows, doors and stairs.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, and machinery to cut and shape wood, metal, or other materials.
  • Installing cabinets, molding, paneling, and other decorative elements.
  • Fixing or replacing damaged or worn parts of a structure, such as beams, flooring, or walls.
  • Adhering to building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Performs other general duties as required.
  • Abides by all OSHA and Houck safety guidelines.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.
  • Be flexible and keep an open mind to change.

Ability and flexibility for occasional travel is expected for this position.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment as well as onsite at construction locations. Other functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or cramped workspaces and awkward positions. The employee works around hazardous situations, materials and equipment.

Physical Demands

The described physical demands below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Keep or regain one's body balance or to stay upright.
  • Coordinate movements of two or more limbs together while sitting, standing, or lying down.
  • Ability to climb, lift and set up an 80lb. ladder and pull a 40lb. ladder to higher levels.
  • Climb and/or balance yourself.
  • Excellent vision skills (with or without correction) are required.
  • Work outdoors.
  • Sit or stand for significant periods of time (4-8 hours).
  • Talking on the phone/cellphone.
  • ability to drive a vehicle for extended periods of time and throughout the workday.
