Description
SUMMARY: Incumbents perform journey-level activities and quality control activities related to the work of trades (Roofing, painting, carpentry, plumbing & electrical). Incumbents may serve as a technical resource to other workers.
Examples of Duties
Repairs and/or regulates City buildings, equipment, fixtures, systems, facilities, and/or grounds by making journey-level trades repairs or installations, depending on area of assignment/expertise
Monitors and maintains materials, inventory, and supplies
Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, mileage, fuel and oil used, and/or other related information
Receives and prioritizes Citywide trades work orders and emergency calls; responds to emergencies and scheduled repairs and maintenance
To assist in the setup and dismantling of various parks and recreation programs/functions.
To work in multiple trade areas.
Responds to inquiries or complaints, including after hours and emergency calls after normal working hours and on weekends and holidays
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Local, State, and Federal codes and regulations and relevant City codes
Construction and maintenance in area of expertise
Procedures and methods related to area of assignment
Tools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignment
Safety procedures
Inventory principles
Recordkeeping principles
Occupational hazards and safe work practices
Skill in:
Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment (Mechanical & electrical tools, aerial lift truck, tractors, pick- up trucks and various other equipment as needed)
Performing journey-level trades maintenance activities; locating and adjusting faulty or defective electrical systems and equipment
Prioritizing and assigning work
Reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings
Troubleshooting systems related to area of assignment
Preparing and maintaining a variety of maintenance records
Using a computer and related software applications
Ability to:
Painting - including but not limited to staining, drywalling, suspended ceilings, finish carpentry, etc.
General Carpentry - including but not limited to framing, drywalling, roofing, trim work, doors, woodworking, etc.
Plumbing - including but not limited to copper brazing, pex, steel pipe fitting, PVC pipe fitting, drain snaking, toilets, sink, and fixture installation, winterizing lines, irrigation systems, etc.
Electrical - including but not limited to single and three phase electrical voltages, conduit bending and installation, pulling wire, working with electrical panels and switches, lighting, electrical motors, telecomm, etc.
Estimate labor and material costs
Operate a variety of shop equipment and hand tools
Perform basic mathematical calculations
Maintain detailed records of activities and completed work orders
Respond to after hours and emergency calls after normal working hours and on weekends and holidays
Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED High school diploma or equivalent; Apprentice level experience in roofing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical preferred
CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE:
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Ohio commercial driver's
