Job Description

The Senior Electrician is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville campus and all campus properties. The senior electrician will be responsible for the continuity of all projects and for the inspection of equipment on a regular basis in order to maintain safety. This position will provide support for special events and will work alongside contractors and other craft disciplines to complete work. This individual will assist the foreman and will fill in during absences.

Responsibilities

Maintain, repair, operate, and install electrical systems and related components

Assist contractors and other crafts personnel in the performance of their duties related to electrical systems construction, modification, or maintenance projects in accordance with the National Electric Code

Supervise and instruct electrical craft personnel in the use of tools, materials, and in the performance of their duties

Interpret drawings and electrical schematics, develop take off materials ordering lists, and order necessary materials

Inspect and repair electrical equipment/components to maintain proper working order

Mentor others, plan work for self and others, provide technical guidance and review work assigned for technical adequacy

Enforces strict safety procedures and maintains the skills and knowledge necessary to perform work in a safe and efficient manner.

Fill in for foreman in their absence

Interpret and apply the fundamentals of the National Electric Code in electrical systems and components in maintenance, repair, and construction projects

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: At least six years of field experience in electrical systems. Education may be substituted for field experience on a year-for-year basis if education is related to electrical systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of the National Electric Code safe work practices and safety guidelines

Ability to interpret and apply fundamentals of the National Electric Code in electrical systems work efforts

Ability to supervise electrical craft in the performance of their duties.

Valid Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Vocational or technical training in electrical systems
