The Military Division - Massachusetts National Guard is seeking a professional for the role of HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic II at Otis ANG Base. The candidate selected for this role will be responsible for performing a full range of repairs and maintains a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supporting equipment with complex problems and extensive repairs requiring judgment to locate malfunctions.
The ideal candidate will have experience in HVAC refrigeration with a clear understanding of troubleshooting HVAC systems, along with the ability to perform independently.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)
- Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment.
- Checks elements which control low and high side pressure, the temperature of the cooling units, liquid and suction lines, and the running time of various mechanisms.
- Checks for the probability of leaks by visual and audible examination of equipment.
- Tests refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and related control systems and equipment.
- Analyzes and isolates system malfunctions.
- Tests pressure and temperature of refrigeration and distribution systems.
- Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment.

The Massachusetts Guard has a unique dual mission, with both federal and state responsibilities. During peacetime, Guard forces are commanded by the Governor through the State Adjutant General. The Governor can call the Guard into action during local or state-wide emergencies, such as storms, floods, blizzards, and civil disturbances. In addition, the President of the United States can activate the Massachusetts National Guard to participate in federal missions. Desired Essential Skills and Qualifications
· Knowledge of the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration and properties of refrigerants.
· Knowledge of the construction and operation of a variety of large commercial and complex industrial systems.
· Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
· Skill in dismantling, repairing, and reassembling pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators.
· Skill in maintaining difficult balances of a variety of refrigerant controls and complicated motor controls.
· Skill in troubleshooting complex problems on large projects applying prescribed test procedures and equipment.
· Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and a variety of test equipment.
· Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading).

Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part- time technical experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration, ventilating and air conditioning systems, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions\:
I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized institution above the high school level, as evidence of completion of a two year program in refrigeration and heating, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.*
*Education toward such a certificate or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Special Requirements\: Based on assignment, a current and valid Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician's License may be required.
