SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Public Service, assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the parks, playgrounds, roads and other City buildings and property .
Example of DutiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Maintenance of parks & playgrounds
Maintenance of City trees in right of ways
S now plowing and salt application on City streets and sidewalks including parking lots, buildings and rentals
Brush and leaf pick up
Vegetation management/ application of pesticides and herbicides
Inspection and repai r of playground equipment
Installation and removal of City boat docks
Road Maintenance
Building maintenance
Equipment maintenance
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with civic groups and garden clubs, preparation for city events .
Traffic control and detour set up, operation of Municipal pool, Assist refuse and recycling crew
Attend regular safety meetings and be familiar with safety applications in the workplace
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
High School diploma, G.E.D or equivalent certificate, and a combination of education, training and experience that would allow the incumbent to demonstrate the qualities necessary to perform the duties and essential functions of the position as listed below.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Class B CDL and eligible for coverage under the Citys motor vehicle insurance
Class A CDL preferred, or will be required to obtain Class A within 1 year of employment
May be required to obtain Agriculture Licenses for Pesticide and Herbicide Application
Knowledge of:
Must be familiar with mowing equipment of all kinds including ditch mowing equipment, flail mowers, underbelly mowers, front & rear mount mowers, trimmers and edgers.
Welding
Tree Trimming
Skill in:
Proper techniques of trimming and removing trees, planting new trees and the operation of bucket trucks.
Asphalt and concrete repair including concrete grading, forming and finishing
Basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall, janitorial work and winterizing equipment
Ability to:
Deal with the public in a professional & courteous manner
Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions
