Description As a Roadway Design Engineer in the DRMP Roadway Group , you will independently plan, design, organize, and recommend roadway design solutions for NCDOT, County and municipal roadway improvement projects. Your assignments may include a diverse variety of transportation-related projects such as new alignment, widening, milling and resurfacing, bicycle & pedestrian, highway safety, intersection, interchange and design-build projects across all phases of a project life from advanced planning to final design. Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Perform engineering design including horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, 3D modeling and cross-sections, pavement design, and temporary traffic control plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Preparing of project documentation including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Package, Design Variations and Exceptions, Estimated Quantity Reports, and Project Meeting minutes.
  • Assist Project Managers and Senior Engineers with roadway design task production and maintaining project documentation.
  • Conduct engineering investigations and planning work by completing well-defined tasks including collection and analysis of data
  • Perform routine calculations and participate in evaluating the feasibility of alternate solutions.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Must possess Fundamentals of Engineering (EI) certification or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 0 - 4 years of transportation design experience.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT production procedures is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with Bentleys MicroStation and Open Roads Designer preferred.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
