Field Technician -Land Survey Chainman

The main duties and responsibilities of the Field Technician -Land Survey Chainman are to assist the Survey Party Chief on various tasks associated with the land surveying industry, including right-of-way surveys, boundary surveys, construction staking, laser scanning, utility surveys and associated tasks for a wide range of projects and clients.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the guidance of a Survey Party Chief/ Survey Department
As this position is entry level, the primary duties are to assist in the field with completing the following tasks:
Daily loading and unloading work vehicle
Maintain a clean work vehicle and supply rooms
Daily field surveying operations in urban, rural, commercial, industrial and construction site locations.
Accurate preparation & completion of daily field notes, sketches & time sheets according to directions.
Complete field surveys for boundaries, design plans, as-builts, and other survey exhibits as directed.
Interpret and work with construction staking calculations under supervision of Survey Chief of Party.
Evaluate engineering design plans for construction purposes under supervision of Survey Party Chief.
Organize and maintain field notes, reports, data, survey equipment, supplies and company vehicles.
Complete miscellaneous survey spreadsheets and documents as directed.
Take an active part in the company safety culture presenting ideas on improvement where possible.
Occasionally travel to project sites that require over-night stays.
Per Diem and accommodations will be provided by company.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and basic understanding of math and geometry
Minimal experience in the surveying/engineering or construction industry is preferred
Must have a readiness and willingness to learn proper survey techniques
Must be physically fit for daily walks through city roads, varied flat to rough terrain and or heavy vegetation
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Travel and overtime will be required as needed

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Frequently/Continually required to stand and walk in uneven terrain
Frequently/Continually required to sit (including drive-time to/from/between sites)
Frequently/Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
Frequently/Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
Frequently/Continually required to talk and hear
Frequently/Continually work around traffic fumes, airborne dust, construction debris, etc.
Frequently/Continually exposure to outside weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
Occasionally exposed to raw sewer and untreated storm water
The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 50 pounds
General good health, fitness, vision & hearing are required to perform all aspects of this job.
Company provided personal protective equipment (PPE) is to be worn at all times on-site
Required to utilize tools such as pry bars, hammers, concrete drills and other hand tools
Work environment includes pedestrians, construction workers and others not affiliated with Nasland Engineering
Environmental conditions such as public roadways and construction sites will include exposure to heavy equipment and vehicles traveling in excess of 40 miles an hour
