Sr. Project Engineer - Systems

MTI is looking for an experienced, motivated profession to join our Systems Engineering team. We are specifically looking for someone who will provide technical and program engineering skills to departments and Cross-Functional engineering program team activities, with a focus on mobility technology and Systems Engineering, and the marketing and sale of the Systems Engineering team's capabilities in these areas. Qualified candidates will possess 5-7+ years experience in the area of expertise.

Skill Team Roles:
The Systems Engineering Team delivers functional integration of mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, energy storage systems and ADAS/AD technologies within conventional, hybrid and electric vehicle and offroad applications. The group is responsible for delivering a system-based approach to efficiently capture functional requirements as well as executing development programs.
The specific roles of a Sr. Project Engineer in this effort include:
- Execute systems engineering principles to integrate hybrid and electric vehicle technology within mobility systems.
- Execute systems engineering principles to develop and integrate ADAS/AV ADAS/AD and features.
- Definition and execution of functional requirements, system boundaries, component & subsystem interface definition, functional safety, and performance tracking.
- Definition of Logical Architecture and Function Activity Diagrams.
- Support quality and reliability engineering and assist with FMEA activities
- Supports Functional Safety / ISO26262 activities
- Execute engineering activities according to project requirements
- Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, technical plans, powertrain system and component testing, data analysis and validation
- Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports
- Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues
- Development, execution, and tracking of BOM for mobility system subsystems
- Plans and executes hybrid and electric vehicle research and development activities
- Supports, organizes, and contribute to customer meetings
- Other duties as required to ensure project success
Qualifications/Skills:
Experience and Education
- 5-7+ years' experience in the area of expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field required
- Master's degree preferred Coop and/or research experience in area of expertise
- Experience within a collegiate design program or similar
A Sr Project Engineer is expected to have demonstrated performance abilities in the following areas:
Commercial
Quote Leader for a medium to large size program
Support the Business Development process for a range of clients
Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently high feedback
Technical
Identify and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use.
Published at least 2 papers accepted by a professional organization or 2 patents awarded
Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
Core competency in the following areas:
Systems Engineering
Electrification Engineering
Independent functionality in at least two or more of the following areas:
Hybrid Electric Powertrain Functional Operation and Optimization experience (inclusive of high voltage electrical systems)
High voltage component integration (power steering, Thermal management, Exportable power, Level 2 onboard charging, power distribution)
Traction motor integration (clutched or direct)
Power electronics for PM or AC induction machines HV battery integration
Power electronics / energy storage thermal management
Base Engine Performance & Emissions Performance Requirements
Transmission Performance & Efficiency Optimization
Vehicle Level Drivability, Fuel Economy, Emissions & Performance Attribute Optimization
Electronic controller hardware specifying and developing/sourcing
Powertrain integration to vehicle / chassis development and production release
Hybrid/electrification technology within passenger car, medium duty, or heavy duty
Vehicle and subsystem level EMI / EMC systems requirements development and validation
ADAS/AD and ADAS/AV feature development and integration
Relational
Leadership of small to medium size technical teams
Working effectively with customers and other program staff and team members
Accountability for individual and team delivery
Program and resource coordination
Active pursuit of personal and departmental improvement
Effective communication with all levels of the program team
