Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in masonry OR AA/HS Degree in Masonry andother trade crafts

Comprehensive knowledge of mixing techniques, and applications for preparingcompatible mortar formulations. Extensive skills in cutting and shaping block,terra cotta, brick and stone. Ability to remove portions of walls, partitions orother similar structures and repair in-kind Ability to make masonry openings forthe installation of doors and windows. Ability to read and interpret drawings,blueprints, and specifications and independently determine the required/desiredlayout and work sequences. Comprehensive knowledge of concrete, terra cottablock, and stucco surfaces, including mixing techniques, applications, etc.Ability to patch and/or replace stucco, including paper, wire, scratch and browncoats, to match existing historic surface. Knowledge of and ability to usecommon hand and power tools associated with masonry, construction and buildingtrades work. Comprehensive knowledge of traditional tools and materials used bycraftsmen in construction of various historic buildings and structures. Thoroughknowledge of OSHA regulations/procedures and various code requirementsapplicable to construction and building trades.Duties:

Enrollee will be working alongside the HPTC to complete masonry preservationtasks on various monuments and objects within the Park. This will includemonument inspections, determination of repairs, best methods and materials forrepairs, completing stone repairs, stone cleaning, bronze cleaning & waxing,monument resetting and so forth.

Following oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and/or field sketchesto lay out masonry work, select the proper tools, determine the necessarymaterials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriatetrade methods and accepted practices, and in conformance with NPS culturalresource guidelines. 50%Provides expert training and mentoring to other tradecraftspersons. 50%

Other:Travel Requirements: Travel to project sites with projects ranging from 2weeks to 2 monthsOvernight travel: Travel to project sites with projects ranging from 2 weeksto 2 months.Air travel anticipated: Depending on project location, air travel may berequiredHealth and Safety Considerations: The enrollee is required to work off theground on ladders, scaffolds, and on the structural framework of buildings. Somework will be completed in aerial man-lifts.Required Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment including but notlimited to hard hats, safety toed boots, gloves, goggles, fall protectionharness, and a variety of respirator types.Physical requirements: The physical effort required is considered heavy tomoderate. Work requires regular and continuous operation and surveillance ofshop functions and work in the field. The work requires considerable physicalexertion related to actions such as recurring lifting, pushing, pulling orcarrying of objects over 50 lbs and of various sizes and shapes. The enrolleemust frequently stand while working, climb ladders, work from scaffolding orplatforms more than 30 feet above the ground, and crawl beneath buildings. Thework requires continuous physical effort and regularly requires the enrollee towork overhead or in awkward, stretched, or uncomfortable positions. He/she isrequired to perform work in all manners of environmental conditions such assnow, rain, mud, and heat. Backcountry work may require the enrollee to travelto remote job sites by foot over rough terrain. Work involves potentiallyhazardous proximity to power tools and heavy construction equipment such astrucks, cranes, tractors and earthmoving equipment. The enrollee is required towork off the ground on ladders, scaffolds and on the structural framework ofbuildings.
