The City of Moreno Valley is looking to fill two (2) Associate Electrical Engineer AND two (2) Assistant Electrical Engineer Positions
in the Public Works Electric Utility Division.
Assistant Electrical Engineer pay range:
$42.96 - $60.50 Hourly
$89,356.80 - $125,840.00 Annually
Associate Electrical Engineer pay range:
$52.23 - $73.52 Hourly
$108,638.40 - $152,921.60 Annually

THE POSITION
The City of Moreno Valley is seeking dynamic and skilled individuals to serve as either an Assistant or Associate Electrical Engineer within the Electric Utility Division of the Public Works Department. These roles offer the opportunity to contribute to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Moreno Valley Utility's electrical infrastructure. The Assistant Electrical Engineer serves in an entry-level capacity, providing foundational support under general supervision, with room for growth into more complex engineering responsibilities. The Associate Electrical Engineer operates at the journey level, taking on advanced projects with greater independence, including system planning, project management, and technical leadership duties. Both positions are critical to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electric service to the community as part of a public power utility.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a motivated and collaborative professional with a strong background in electrical engineering, a keen interest in public utility operations, and a commitment to technical excellence. Candidates should bring a working knowledge of electric distribution systems, design and analysis tools, and regulatory standards. Assistant-level applicants will be eager to learn and grow within a supportive team, ideally bringing academic or internship experience. Associate-level applicants will possess deeper practical experience, an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificate, and a demonstrated ability to manage capital projects and perform advanced engineering analysis. Across both levels, success in this role hinges on strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and a passion for serving the public through reliable and innovative utility engineering.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Level: A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field;AND
At least two (2) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience, preferably in a public utility setting.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Possession of a validEngineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificateissued by the California Board for Professional Engineers.
Assistant Level:A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field;AND
One (1) year of engineering experience in utility or electrical engineering work is desirable but not required. Internship or cooperative education experience in a utility setting is a plus.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificate is desirable but not required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Assistant Electrical Engineer is the entry-level position in the professional electrical engineering series specific to MVU. Assistant Electrical Engineers perform a range of electrical engineering assignments of moderate complexity and assist senior engineers and project managers in utility-related work. Assignments expand in scope and complexity with experience, and this position is expected to exercise greater independence over time.
Assistant Electrical Engineer is distinguished from Associate Electrical Engineer in that the Associate Electrical Engineers require an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificate issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, and Associate Electrical Engineers perform more complex work with minimal supervision.
