Hiring Range: $75,816 - $90,979 Annually

Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Plans, organizes and manages technical and administrative operations of one or more work units in the Park Operations Division at the Parks and Recreation Department.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Plans, organizes, and manages park development, maintenance, protection, restoration, and operations within a division of the Parks and Recreation Department;

  • Reviews design plans and construction documents for all new construction, renovation, restoration, and maintenance projects

  • Manages and coordinates the construction, maintenance, repairs, inspection, and renovation of projects of park facilities, including buildings, swimming pools, ball fields, trails, and recreational areas;

  • Prepares and administers grants, Inter-government agreements, Rights of Entry permits, maintaining records of expenditures, and preparing reports;

  • Interacts with representatives of grantors and other partners, including other county departments, as well as federal, state, and local agencies and non-profit organizations collaborating on projects;

  • Recruits, assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff;

  • Develops, organizes, and administers strategic and management plans, master agreements, project plans, and special needs assessments for county parks and resources;

  • Manages emergency maintenance and repair of park equipment and facilities;

  • Responds to elected officials, news media, and public inquiries regarding events, resolving problems, providing information, and addressing pertinent issues;

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, planning, natural resource recreation, civil engineering, architecture, arid lands resource sciences, landscape architecture, renewable natural resources, horticulture, agronomy, wildlife management, soil and water science or other closely related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND four (4) years of experience in administration or supervisor of a municipal park, state or federal park, state or federal multiple use area, natural area parks sports complex, resources preserve, wilderness preserve, planning or maintenance operations.

OR:

Four years of work experience with Pima County as a Park Supervisor or other leadership role supervising staff as determined by the department head at time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum five (5) years experience working with or supervising grounds, maintenance, construction, or operations trades and crafts personnel.

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in project management.

  • Minimum five (5) years experience supervising and managing 15 or more employees of varying skill sets.

  • Minimum five (5) years administrative experience with expense budgets, personnel management, employee development, safety policy and programs, procurement oversight, administration and enforcement of Pima County and Department Rules and Policies.

  • Any appropriate certifications, such as Structural Pesticide Applicator License, Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), International Society of Arborists (ISA) certification, Sports Turf Management Association (STMA) certification, or other field-related certifications.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates : V alid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.

Physical / Sensory Work Requirements: Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.

Working Conditions: All positions require the ability to work in extremes of noise, heat, cold, dust and pollen and prolonged exposure to sun, wind and inclement weather and the ability to wear and maintain required safety and personal protective equipment.
