Engineering Technician- Plainfield Correctional Facility

This is a Monday-Friday day shift position out of the Plainfield Correctional facility on the west side. The general salary range for this position is $59-$73K. Candidates must be comfortable working in a correctional environment and should be willing to travel to other Goodwill manufacturing locations as needed. The Engineering Technician is responsible for job analysis, conducting time studies, and providing technical support for the Commercial Services production operations. This role performs job set-ups which consist of writing and maintaining work instruction manuals, creating standards, and developing production training support materials. The Technician suggests and implements continuous improvement projects that result in greater efficiency, safety, quality, productivity, etc. The Technician contributes as a key member of the management team, which consists of the Vice President, Manufacturing Operations, Director, Plant Operations, Manufacturing Engineer, Director, Quality, and Manager, Supply Chain. Example Duties and Activities Analyzes current manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Develops and implements innovative manufacturing methods, techniques, and technologies to enhance production processes. Designs and implements manufacturing tools, fixtures, and equipment to support production needs and enhance process consistency. Collaborates with cross-functional teams including design, production, and quality assurance to ensure seamless product development and manufacturing integration. Conducts regular process assessments and data analysis to identify bottlenecks, defects, and areas of improvement. Develops and implements corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Leads projects to optimize production lines, reduce waste, and improve overall operational efficiency. Provides technical guidance and support to production teams, troubleshoots issues, and provides solutions to ensure smooth production flow. Develops and maintains documentation related to manufacturing processes, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process flow charts in accordance of ISO standards. Collaborates with procurement to select suppliers and materials that meet quality and cost requirements. Stays current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in manufacturing engineering. Proposes and implements relevant advancements to enhance our manufacturing capabilities. Industry Expertise - Has worked in a professional manufacturing, packaging, or assembly environment and ideally possesses job costing expertise. Is knowledgeable of the organization, planning, time management, inventory control, equipment maintenance, teamwork, documentation, and data entry involved. Possesses familiarity with warehousing and inventory controls, lean manufacturing systems, quality management systems, and LEAN philosophies as they apply to a plant manufacturing environment. Process Management - Defines, implements, and manages structured online as well as physical processes. Is able to read and interpret documents such as safety, operating instructions, and procedure manuals and translate them into processes. Possesses the ability to write, document, maintain, and hold all accountable for policies and procedures. Trains staff using appropriate training methodologies and motivational techniques to improve job performance and/or knowledge base Technical Reading and Comprehension - Quickly and accurately interprets and grasps complex, detailed data and documentation to successfully identify process improvement opportunities. Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world. Innovation - Creates new and better ways for the team to be successful by identifying gaps, evaluating opportunities, assessing risks, and putting ideas into action. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving - Uses both rationale and reasoning to examine data, processes, and strategies in identifying trends and inconsistencies to create alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Implements innovative solutions to address complex issues. Technical Knowledge - Has strong working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office, especially Excel proficiency. Prior experience with enterprise planning systems is highly preferred. Continuous Learning - Stays current on trends related to the manufacturing industry technologies and trends. Has a thirst for knowledge and applies it appropriately. Compelled to find answers through research and collaboration. Remains open and willing to receive and apply feedback to continually improve.
