Health and Safety Manager Job Description We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager for a high-profile, multi-million dollar infrastructure project in Vancouver, BC. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with a proven track record in the construction industry, who can oversee all security aspects of the project. Responsibilities Implement and support project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices. Identify, evaluate, develop, and deliver project-specific HSE training; assist with the development of area-specific training. Implement area HSE communication strategies on projects. Build processes, evaluate, and advise on hazard identification. Lead project HSE inspections and monitor the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans. Work with project teams to provide recommendations regarding corrective actions for systemic issues. Develop and evaluate efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements, and the environmental plan. Monitor and audit trade partner HSE performance. Lead on-site investigative processes and provide recommendations for evaluating corrective actions taken. Develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders. Supervise, coach, train, and mentor HSE Coordinators and other employees. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field. CSO level 3 certification, including Confined Space Entry & Rescue Certificate and Fall Protection Certificate. 10 years of experience as a CSO in the construction industry, with preference for experience in highways, civil, industrial, or municipal infrastructure. Minimum occupational first aid - level 2 with active certification. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience in incident investigation and causal analysis. Strong working knowledge of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes. Conflict resolution skills with the ability to problem-solve. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships. Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology. Additional Skills & Qualifications Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology. Work Environment This role is based at the Oakridge Redevelopment project, involving preconstruction and construction services for a mixed-use development. The project scope includes doubling the size of the mall to 1.4M square feet, adding over 2,900 residential units in 13 towers, 300,000 square feet of commercial office space, and a 70,000 square feet civic center, along with public park space on the rooftop areas. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm or similar, totaling a 40-hour workweek with overtime available.
