The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Home Minneapolis campus is a 24/7 nursing facility on a 53-acre campus. We are seeking a full-time Buildings Utilities Mechanic for our Physical Plant department. This position performs skilled mechanical work in maintenance, repair, replacement and repair of heating, cooling and mechanical systems. This position works under the guidance of the Power Plant Chief Engineer and Plant Maintenance Engineer Leads.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

+ Ensuring and performing preventative maintenance, service, and repairs on mechanical systems and equipment for operational efficiency 24/7.

+ Preventative maintenance and services on cooling towers, chillers, and pumps.

+ Ensure that hot water temperatures are maintained and inspected for proper operation.

+ Inspect the campus firefighting and alarm systems - such as valves, sprinklers, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, etc.

+ Track and close out work orders through repairs, checking inventory, and tracking equipment history.

+ Assist and provide work direction to trade workers and laborers as needed for project work and service requests.

**Minimum Qualifications**

**Work Hours:** Monday Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, subject to flexibility outside of normal working hours in emergencies and/or operational needs. May include weekends, evenings, holidays, and being on-call.

Must meet the following qualifications listed below:

+ Current MN boiler operator engineer license 2 nd Class Engineer or higher (any grade)

+ Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects

+ Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment

+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties

Ability to:

+ Perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment

+ Perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings

+ Understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner

+ Provide work direction to trade workers and laborers

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Current MN boiler operator engineer licensure 1 st Class or higher (any grade)

+ Experience performing skilled trades work

This position requires successful completion of the following:

+ Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).

+ A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.

+ A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
