Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Avionics Hardware Electrical Engineer to join our growing Electrical Engineering team This position provides an opportunity to participate in fast-paced iterative Avionics Hardware developments for Command & Data Handling systems, with an emphasis in proliferated LEO constellations applications.

In this role, located in our offices in San Jose CA, you will act as the engineering focal for one or several avionics units for different company products Collaborating closely with a cohort of electrical, mechanical, test and system engineers, you will develop electrical schematics, PCB board layouts, specifications and execute test activities in the laboratory You will provide technical leadership and provide guidance to other engineers to complete the overall design of the avionics boxes You may work with hardware in the laboratory to verify it is configured and communicates properly with other avionics, then help troubleshoot problems on the real spacecraft This is an exciting opportunity to be the owner from concept to verification, production and operation of avionics hardware for space applications.

Responsibilities:

Work with a cross-functional team (mechanical, thermal, software/firmware, test engineering, supply chain, etc.) to deliver high-performance hardware

Understand, contribute to, and perform system trades, requirements capture, component selection, and various electrical design analyses

Create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, mechanical drawings, test and verification plans

Inform and/or direct design of test setups and, as needed, execute hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing

Oversee the manufacturing of PCB boards and avionics boxes both for research and volume production purposes Effectively, support hardware through design, production, satellite integration, and on-orbit performance.

Support execution of test campaigns in R D and environmental laboratories, and use the data gathered to iterate the design Be the cognizant responsible engineer, reviewing various test results and providing direction on design and performance impacts, and changes needed

Perform root cause investigations to characterize off-nominal unit behavior and mitigate risk

Drive changes to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings that improve reliability and manufacturability

Derive engineering justification to resolve production issues throughout assembly, test, and integration

Provide technical leadership and guidance

Requirement:

Minimum Requirements:

Must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science or a related field 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.

8 years of experience with electrical design and analysis, with an emphasis in micro-processors and micro-controller board design.

Hands-on oriented, willingness to test quick, understand failures and incorporate lessons learned in the design

Experience with electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

10-12 years of relevant experience, including experience leading electrical engineering designs through the full lifecycle Exposure to both Radiation Hardened (Rad Hard) designs and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) designs will be great, which should position you to support growing our product lines to support different space environment missions

Familiarity with the space environment and its effect on satellite systems

Experience with Analog, Digital, and Mixed-signal circuits

Knowledge of electronics design and electrical communication standards, such as RS-422/485, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire/Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C

Experience with Electrical schematic capture and PCB design (eCAD) software (Altium is what we use)

Experience with Mechanical design (mCAD) software

Knowledge of common circuit blocks including filters, power supplies, and microcontrollers

Exposure to FPGA hardware implementation for flight applications in the aerospace industry

Knowledge of Design for excellence (DFX), root cause, derating, and related analyses

Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere

Self-motivated problem solver, with strong communication, and documentation skills
