JOB SUMMARY:
Performs senior technical and specialized work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of mechanical and electromechanical equipment for the Village of Wellington (Village).
Work is performed under minimal supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Utilizes computerized diagnostic techniques, instruments, and equipment in troubleshooting and identifying radio telemetry and electrical and mechanical problems.
Inspects equipment for malfunctions, maintenance needs, breakage, and detection of potential problems and causes of instrument failure.
Performs inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and to ensure safe and proper operating conditions; diagnoses malfunctioning equipment and systems using test equipment and hand tools and takes appropriate measures to correct the malfunction.
Maintains industrial electrical equipment; diagnostic testing repairs, and overhaul of switch-gear, motors and transformers (Hi-voltage / Med-voltage / Lo-voltage).
Works safely in and around high voltage (up to 4200 volts) equipment; follows diligently electrical work safety rules, policies, and practices.
Installs, troubleshoots, and programs various types of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); calibrates electronic control systems.
Interprets control drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and other craft related drawings; updates electrical equipment documentation and drawings as required.
Maintains detailed and accurate records of all work performed; prepares and reviews calculation sheets and calibration data records.
Troubleshoots and tests for faults on controls, power, and lighting circuits; potential and current transformers and switchboard wiring; motors and starters, variable frequency drives, and similar devices on AC/DC circuits.
Works on motor operated valves, control relays, switches, solenoids and battery systems. Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction, and/or negligence.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree in electronics, instrumentation, electrical technology, or a closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years of experience in water/wastewater systems, instrumentation, and electrical calibration; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Palm Beach County Journeyman Level Electricians license. Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events. Will be assigned to scheduled, compensated Standby for nights, weekends, holidays for high priority incidents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of International Society of Automation (ISA) standards and practices
Knowledge of physics, electronics, computer sciences, temperature, pressure and level measurement devices
Skill in the use of multimeters, highway addressable remote transducer communicators, mA loop calibrators, Thermocouple calibrators, etc.
Skill in math including fractions and formula review ratios, proportions and percentages, large and small number conversions and converting between number bases and units
Skill in identifying and resolving electronic problems
Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics as well as troubleshoot board counters, unit switches, and PLCs
Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
