Job Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating fabrication equipment to cut, polish, and finish granite, quartz, and other stone countertops according to project specifications. This role also ensures machinery is maintained per safety and performance protocols. Operators are classified as Level I, II, or III based on experience and technical capability.

Essential Functions

Level I:
Operate stone fabrication equipment to cut and polish materials to specification
Inspect slabs for defects, cracks, and correct dimensions before processing
Perform daily equipment maintenance and report malfunctions promptly
Follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop area
Perform other duties as assigned

Level II (Includes Level I functions):
Demonstrate mastery of one or more machine types and cross-train on others
Understand and work from production schedules and job tickets
Identify material types and characteristics to ensure proper handling and processing
Provide feedback to shop leadership on production flow or process improvements
Perform other duties as assigned

Level III (Includes Level II functions):
Operate and maintain multiple fabrication machines with expert proficiency
Troubleshoot mechanical and material-related issues independently
Mentor and train junior operators; assist with onboarding and skill development
Identify and adapt to unique material characteristics (e.g., veining, fragility, polish quality)
Perform other duties as assigned

Skills & Competencies

Level I:
High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred
13 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of machinery maintenance
Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain safety standards

Level II:
All Level I qualifications
35 years of machine operation experience
Ability to meet production goals and adapt to scheduling demands
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Level III:
All Level II qualifications
5+ years of machine operation experience in stone fabrication
Proven expertise in multiple machine types (e.g., bridge saws, CNCs, polishers)
Leadership skills and ability to mentor junior team members

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, walk, and operate equipment for 8+ hours daily
Ability to lift and maneuver 50+ lbs regularly

Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in a fabrication shop with exposure to dust, noise, and machinery
PPE required at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves)
