Job Title : Design Engineer Expert
Duties : American Precision Industries, Inc. (dba Portescap) seeks a Design Engineer Expert in West Chester, Pennsylvania to design electrical and electronic technologies. Research, design, and develop new and advanced miniature motor technologies. Support customer product engineering requests, create technical proposals for new product applications, and incorporate customer requirements into technical proposals and designs. Perform modeling and analysis of electric motors using FEM and simulation software tools including FEMM, Motor Solve, Altair FLUX, and MATLAB/Simulink. Conduct electromagnetic and thermal simulations. Optimize motor parameters to meet desired performance. Use electrical and mechanical test equipment including signal generators, DVM, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, tension/torsion testers, thermal chambers, and vibration monitoring. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build prototypes of designed motors, meet design specifications and performance criteria. Validate simulation data with experimental data and troubleshoot electronics and electrical assemblies. Provide feedback on quality related topics to ensure optimized performance. Analyze designs using design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA). Provide guidance and advice on systems related to DC and AC motors, including controls, testing, specifications, and applications. Develop and integrate electrical and electronic technologies that extend the performance and capabilities of the companys product portfolio. Complete patent application filings and finalize and execute intellectual property documents. Manage direct report. Local telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Annual salary: $135,000-$165,000/year.
Minimum Requirements : Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus two years of electrical engineering experience. Must have at least two years of experience in each of the following: 1. Designing electrical and electronic technologies; 2. Researching, designing, and developing miniature motor technologies; 3. Performing modeling and analysis of electric motors using FEM and simulation software tools including FEMM, Motor Solve, Altair FLUX, and MATLAB/Simulink; 4. Conducting electromagnetic and thermal simulations; 5. Using electrical and mechanical test equipment including signal generators, DVM, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, tension/torsion testers, thermal chambers, and vibration monitoring; and 6. Analyzing designs using design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA).
