The Prince Georges County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Collections Section Supervisor , (Refuse Collections Inspector III ) grade A20 position, in the Resource Recovery Division .
About the Position
This is supervisory level work; and the incumbent plans, coordinates, and schedules the work activities of Collection Inspectors. Work requires the application of supervisory and technical knowledge and skill.
About the Agency
The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
Works closely with the Refuse Collection Supervisor in planning and developing operational procedures related to County contracted refuse collection service to suburban residential areas and county-wide bulk trash collection.
Assists in the preparation of refuse collection contracts; prepares drafts of contract documents; makes spot inspections of established routes to ensure schedules are maintained and service follows contract specifications.
Informs residents concerning County refuse collection service regulations, collection schedules, etc.
Performs fieldwork in support of County contractual agreements/laws/regulations.
Assists in the conduct of public hearings for refuse collection.
Brings to the attention of the Refuse Collections Supervisor cases of non-compliance that may require the Refuse Collections Supervisor's, Deputy Associate Director's, or Associate Director's intervention and or legal action.
Records and tracks visits to multifamily, commercial industrial properties, and interior businesses; documenting recycling, polystyrene, and straw violations for potential court proceedings.
Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent plus two (2) years of code enforcement experience including one (1) year in refuse collection/disposal, sanitation, or solid waste inspection.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
Preferred QualificationsAssociate Degree in Business Management, Business Administration or related subject matter.
