This Opportunity
WSP is currently seeking a Field Engineer / Senior Construction Inspector to help oversee underground gas main construction in the Stony Point, Clarkstown and Haverstraw, NY areas. The project entails installing approximately 3-miles of 6" HDPE piping along with services.
The successful candidate will oversee maintenance of traffic, erosion control, excavation, shoring, pipe and appurtenance installation, bedding, backfilling, compaction, and paving, testing and other related activities. The inspector will report to the WSP Construction Manager. The successful candidate will possess relevant construction engineering, inspection, and documentation experience.
Your Impact
- Observe and inspect construction activities.
- Monitor maintenance of traffic plans prepared by contractor.
- Confirm Dig-Safe markings on a routine basis and be cognizant of other underground utilities to avoid. Be prepared to help identify possible gas main alignment issues and recommend or confirm resolution with others.
- Observe proper excavation shoring, proper bedding, backfilling, compaction, and paving activities.
- Observe and report on pipe fusion welding and testing, including any necessary repairs, and retesting.
- Complete daily inspector reports, measure, calculate, track and document pay item quantities.
- Take and compile photographs, for tracking of daily progress.
- Perform and record swing-tie field measurements for general locations, and appurtenances. Update or review contractor's red-line drawings.
- Monitor construction schedules and help guide adherence through leading with or participating in weekly progress meetings.
- Maintain, monitor and closeout project documentation such as, drawing/specification updates, RFIs, shop drawings or technical submittals, field reports, testing records, meeting minutes and change order requests.
- Receive, inspect, and accept equipment or materials stored for payment.
- Review and recommend contractor's pay requisitions.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 11 years of relevant post education experience in underground utility construction with prior inspection experience.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with ability exercise sound judgement in evaluating construction/design conflicts and recommending independent solutions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, acting on behalf of WSP and the client.
- Ability to work schedules that align with project-specific requirements that may be extended beyond the typical work week.
- Valid driver's license. Proven history of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate of Science degree in engineering or construction management
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, or related field.
- OSHA 10hr or 30hr training, or similar safety recognition for the type of work expected.
- Average proficiency with MS WORD Suite, technical writing, math principles and basic spreadsheets.
- Experience working on highway rights-of-way.
- Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications, and experience will be considered.

Expected Salary: $100,000 - 178,700
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
