We are seeking a highly motivated, early to mid-career Water Resources Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join our team. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to take on more significant responsibilities, contributing to and managing key aspects of water resources projects that will often involve complex hydrologic and hydraulics modeling. You'll play a crucial role in delivering solutions for our municipal, state, federal, and industrial clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

What you'll do

  • Conduct advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling: Utilize software such as SWMM (2D SWMM experience is a plus), HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS to analyze complex watershed systems.
  • Perform and manage engineering duties for water resources projects, balancing hands-on technical work with project coordination.
  • Contribute to project planning and execution: Assist in developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and designs: Develop detailed engineering documents, technical memoranda, studies, plans, and specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff, fostering their development.
  • Engage with clients: Participate in meetings and support the maintenance of strong client relationships.
  • Assist in proposal development: Contribute to the technical scope and effort estimates for new project opportunities.
  • Utilize ArcGIS for advanced mapping, spatial analysis, and data management.
  • Support compliance efforts related to FEMA floodplain management and Virginia Dam Safety requirements.

Minimum Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with significant coursework in water resources (including hydrology and hydraulics).
  • 3+ years of professional experience in performing and managing water resources projects.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification desired; progress towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in VA is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, including SWMM (2D SWMM experience strongly preferred), HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.
  • 3+ years experience with mapping and data analysis using ArcGIS.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, ability to pass a DMV record check, and be insurable

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to Virginia Dam Safety requirements and/or O&M certification concepts is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Demonstrated dependability, responsibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience working with or supporting municipal clients is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with FEMA floodplain management guidelines and processes.
