To achieve this goal, the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering (CHSE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will be the technical voice focusing on design efforts specific to infrastructure , specific but not limited to Power infrastructure across Azure within Microsoft. You will be leading System level power design and development, for AI and non AI systems, influencing architecture, engineering, and validation for our products to deliver high quality solutions to the customers. You will also be responsible to develop and deploy solutions that enable reliable end to end delivery. This is an opportunity to work on next generation architecture and provide innovative solution to customers.
We are looking for a Senior Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join the team.
- Collaborate with datacenter, system and p ow er teams to develop advanced power delivery systems for server and rack-level deployments .
- Support mechanical and systems engineering teams in integrating power systems across global initiatives.
- Define technical specifications and oversee validation through comprehensive testing.
- Lead initiatives exploring emerging technologies and novel applications of existing solutions.
- Partner with industry leaders to assess and integrate innovative power technologies.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to validate and deploy new systems.
- Troubleshoot complex system-level power delivery issues and provide technical direction.
- Develop and qualify rack-level power architectures compatible with diverse IT hardware.
- Evaluate vendor designs and review technical documentation, including test and manufacturing reports.
- Create and assess verification test cases, circuit designs, and simulations.
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet quality and performance standards.
- Address operational issues in the field and support resolution efforts.
- Contribute to long-term power infrastructure planning and scalability strategies.
- Manage components such as PDUs, UPS systems, circuit protection devices, and backup power solutions.
- Foster collaboration across engineering disciplines to ensure seamless product delivery from concept to deployment.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering , Computer Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering , Computer Engineering, or related field AND 11+ years technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience .
- 6+ years combined experience working in the server/storage/data center industry.
- 6+ Years working in the power industry developing AC-DC power supplies and power solutions.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to instrument and test power supplies and converters in the lab including use of oscilloscopes, power meters, electronic loads, DMM’s and electronic sources.
- Experience in writing embedded systems code for AC-DC power supplies or power applications.
- Proficient project management skills, system and sub-system level design knowledge, experienced in team leadership, a detailed background in ODM/JDM development and manufacturing processes plus an innate ability to think outside the box .
- Experience in specifying, designing, and qualifying UPS platforms.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving power supply or power delivery issues.
- Familiarity with EMI, Safety, and general agency requirements.
- Ability to create specifications and requirements.
- Excellent writing skills and use of Microsoft Office products.
- Familiarity and experience with Battery backup operation and design.
- Understanding of I2C/UART/SPI and CAN bus protocols.
- Deep knowledge of PMBUS standard.
Electrical Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
